RUDNET Strategies

Guided by the needs established through research with farm workers and participation in Regional Conferences, the services RUDNET offers are directed through the following strategies:

  • Strategy 1: Capacity Building: Socio-Economic development and capacitating of farm workers.

The aim of this strategy is to empower farm-dweller communities to transform power relations that increase social inclusion and to facilitate an environment that is conducive for those leaders to respond appropriately to their respective communities’ social needs. It will enable the leadership to participate and facilitate district level capacity building of committees to align the needs of farm dwellers with appropriate service providers and to monitor progress. This strategy has two programme focus areas, namely Farm Worker Committee Training and Leadership Development.

  • Strategy 2: Advocacy- Farm Health Award Programme

The advocacy for the promotion and implementation of an integrated health programme through an innovative and holistic Farm Health Award System that is designed to motivate and acknowledge farm working communities and individuals for service excellence in the promotion and improvement of the quality of life of the farm worker communities. To this end farmers (employers) and industry organisation and role players are acknowledged.

  • Strategy 3: Research and Information

The introduction of this strategy was necessary for RUDNET to engage or facilitate engagement in the research of industry specific social development phenomena to ensure that the organisation and its members is always abreast and duly informed about dimensions in the field it is operating in.

  • Strategy 4: The Strengthening, Supporting and Co-ordination of RUDNET Members

This strategy will enable RUDNET to facilitate opportunities for and assist members to identify gaps in knowledge and experience of service delivery, as well as developing the competencies of members within their existing programmes through joint strategizing. Instead of organisations approaching organs of state and industry bodies separately to access resources and opportunities, effort can be combined in a single strategy with clearly defined combined role, responsibilities and accountabilities.

Informed by the needs of the people, RUDNET’s role is to position a network (of NGO’s), and to strengthen the network accordingly. NGO’s will be sorted and integrated into each of the strategies according to the needs of the people. By doing this, we believe developmental work is coordinated and not fragmented, and there is therefore no re-duplication of the same service. At present, 48 NGO’s belong to the RUDNET Network and are strengthened through RUDNET as an overall umbrella.

  • Strategy 5: Sustainability of RUDNET

The aim of this strategy is to conduct research in order to sustain a functional, professional and effective organisation that impacts positively on its members and the communities it serves.
